Recently on Instagram, I asked all of my followers to send me any and all questions regarding my boudoir sessions! I got a few really good ones so I figure I would make a full blog post to expand on all of them.
Questions From Clients
What’s the best location?
I prefer to shoot at your apartment/house so that the photos are more personal to you! If you want it at a friend’s apartment, a studio, hotel or wherever else I will go there too. The reason I like to do this is so you feel comfortable and can choose the backdrop. Different locations will give different vibes and feelings so it’s good to make sure your location matches the feeling you’re going for and fits your personality. If you’re unsure just ask! If you have nowhere to go and it’s not in your budget to do a hotel I offer my apartment. The session below was taken in my apartment. I totally understand that everyone has different living situations and I will always help figure out the best location for you.
Where do I buy Lingerie?
This is a great question! There are so many good options out there, but I do have some tips and favourites! The very first thing you want to do is go through what you already have and ask yourself ‘what do I want to be photographed in and what mood is it giving?’. My rule of thumb is to have 2-4 outfits that are all very different from each other so you have variety and choice. My personal favourite lingerie is by Free People, simply because it’s romantic and never asks for too much attention. If you’re on a budget remember that you don’t have to perfectly match your tops and bottoms. A simple black or white undie with a coloured bra will still look good!
Victoria’s Secret makes the most amazing bodysuits. Aerie is perfect for my girl on a budget, their bralettes very cute and flattering. Free people has a bit of everything and a lot of lace which always photographs really nice! Here are a few sets I’m in love with right now.

Are you going to be posting my photos?
Only if you want me to! My theory is this… I don’t want you to think or worry about that until after you’ve received your digitals and enjoyed them for yourself. Getting boudoir pictures can be overwhelming so don’t even think about it yet. Once you receive your final digitals I will send you a proofing gallery for you to choose which images your comfortable with me posting online and those are the only ones I will post! It’s simple and allows you to be in control.
What Should I do about Hair and Makeup?
I have hair and makeup add-ons if you need with some amazing local make-up artists and hairstylists! Ask me if your interested and we can go over pricing and other details. If it’s not in your budget then just ask what you should do! I have tons of easy tips and tricks up my sleeve to get photo-ready within a budget! What about all my stretch marks, cellulite and ingrown hairs!? ahh!
I believe wholeheartedly in the beauty of YOU… As you naturally are… Yes, that includes stretch marks, but don’t go running just yet. I can understand not wanting to blow your stretch marks up to 5x the magnification, so I light and shoot in a manner that keeps those qualities at bay and will do minor smoothing and editing. No, I will not edit out every single stretch mark, cellulite, or spot because I honestly don’t believe you need it. We should learn to love ourselves just the way we are and this is a great way to start! My best advice is to trust and be honest with me, just like any other relationship telling me what you’re self-conscious or confident with will only improve your photos and overall session enjoyment!
Can I bring a friend?
To be honest… You don’t want your friend there. I want you to feel like you’re alone and totally let go of the pressures and ideas you have of what you should look like. If your friend is there they will likely distract you and probably me too. If you really want the support they can come and hang out outside and chat in-between outfits. If you both just so happen to be getting a session and you want to book it back to back let’s do it! Keep in mind that this is an hour dedicated to YOU and I want to keep it that way. We’ll throw some tunes on, get some bubbly going and have fun! Be selfish girl! You deserve it!
Can I get Naked?
I get this question a lot… Yes, I am totally ok with nudity. I have full private galleries of nude sessions to show exactly the style I will shoot in and the level of nudity I allow in my sessions. If you think this is something that interests you send me a message/email and I’ll show you those galleries! My rule with nudity is no surprises, we should both go in knowing exactly what to expect.
Questions from Photographers
What lens is your favourite to shoot with?
My 50mm 1.4 almost never leaves my camera on a boudoir shoot.
How do you know what poses for what body type?
I keep all my sessions collaborative, I ask my clients to send me poses they like and want to try out, and I save about 5 new ones to my phone before every shoot. I’m always pushing myself and if a pose isn’t working I change it right away. Also getting my own boudoir pictures done has really helped me understand how to shoot for different body types.
Where are your albums from and do you like them?
All boudoir session albums will come from Artifact Uprising, and hell yes I am so happy with them. Simple, clean, great quality and not totally outrageous in price. Here are a few photos of my most popular album.
