3 Tips for Getting Candid Photos of your Wedding Guests
Dhiyandra and Tristan had an insanely epic brunch wedding. There were so many guests and everyone was so lovely and so happy to be there. This wedding was full of tears, laughs, giggles and more. D & T really wanted a lot of attention and focus on their beautiful guests, so I catered their package and my approach to ensure they got all the most perfect guest shots imaginable. I brought on my second shooter Jason Shum and he rocked it! Having a second shooter is so critical when getting guests shots and candids. It allows me to be in two places at once!
There are literally so many candids to choose from and even narrowing it down to this for the blog was a challenge. So if you’re thinking you want lots of guest candids at your wedding this is the perfect inspiration blog.
I figured because of all the candids I would give you some tips. So here we go.
3 tips for getting the best guest photos at your wedding
- Second shooter. I can only be in one place at a time and having a second shooter is like having two me’s! It’s perfect because while I’m with you and focusing on your tasks my second shooter can go capture details, candids, and so much more. It is more expensive but it’s for sure worth it.
- Have lots of downtime in your schedule. Not down time for me, but for you. If you’re mingling, chilling and chatting then I will be there capturing it. Oftentimes we’re off getting couple portraits when you could be mingling which again means i’m not where your guests are. Even 20 minutes at cocktail and a little bit of extra space in your reception timeline. It’s always good for candids and never hurts to have extra buffer time.
- Communicate clearly with your photographer that this is a goal of yours. Tell them how high it is on your priority list and ask them for what they recommend based on what they know of your current plan. I have so many tips and ideas that I can help with once I know your rough timeline, tweeks and suggestions for you. I cater my advice to each and every client so just let me know!
