Vintage Car Styled Engagement Photoshoot in Dundas
Dhiyandra and Tristan had their engagement photos taken in Dundas, a cute town in the Hamilton area. As a couple, they wanted something unique so I offered a half styled shoot! This allows for me to create something fun and personalized to my brand while still providing a memorable and unique experience for their photography session. So we decided to go with a more classic look and we rented a vintage car from the 1950s to give their photos that thrifty feel.
Fun fact, the car was actually made in Hamilton!
The timeless elegance of vintage cars and fashion choices make for some stunning photos that will never go out of style. Also when you add in the grungy look from this cool spot in Dundas, you’ve got a session that is both unique and elegant.
What is a styled shoot?
A styled shoot is a creative photo shoot that is typically planned by a photographer or planner. They’ll come up with a full creative concept and plan and execute the concept. The idea is that, as a photographer, I can curate a session for my portfolio and my brand because I’m in control creatively.
Another great reason for this is that couples can have really unique, fun and personable concepts for their own engagement sessions with little to no work. Generally there only needs to be a good relationship and a idea or theme agreed upon by all parties!
My vision for this particular shoot was to have it be very 1950’s, very classic looking attire and vibes with a simple yet vintage car. But I wanted there to be a layer of grunge, because an element to add juxtaposition to the ‘classic’ clean look would balance my images. I sought out a car that didn’t have flashy features and a shiny/popping colour. It especially played a huge roll into my location selection. Having it look like the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere with giant electric posts really added that slight touch of grunge that I wanted. It was the perfect spot.
You’ll notice I even used flash in many images to also add a layer of gritty’ness. Flash can create a really harsh look that adds the perfect amount of drama. It was so fun to play around and I hope you enjoy this session like I did!
Summary
As a photographer, I always strive to capture the essence of my clients’ personalities and the love they share. Even with a styled shoot, the subject, in this case my couple Dhiyandra and Tristan, are still the most important part. Without their love and emotion the creative concept is just a cool backdrop. I felt an instant connection with Dhiyandra & Tristan and they were particularly easy to photograph because of their connection with each other. It was a privilege to work with them and to create these beautiful photos. They were a joy to work with, and their love for each other was evident in every shot.
Lastly It’s important to choose a photographer who can help you feel at ease during your session and capture the true essence of your relationship. With Dhiyandra and Tristan, it was effortless, and I’m thrilled with the result. If you’re looking for engagement photography that perfectly captures your love story but in a less conventional way reach out and let’s chat. Maybe we’re a perfect fit!

As I mentioned above I added flash in many images to add a layer of harshness to contrast their simple outfits. You can see here how much flash can change an image. I put them side by side below so you can compare them to each other. I love all of them for totally different reasons! It’s fun to point out the differences and really break down what goes behind each image.
