Fall Wedding at Adélina Barn
Capturing Marianne & Sebastian: A Heartfelt Fall Wedding
As a wedding photographer based in Hamilton who used to live in Ottawa and is from Calgary, I often find myself working all over the country! One of my favourite places to go in the fall is North of Ottawa, into Quebec. The fall colours there are like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’m always so grateful when I’m working in such a beautiful space. Marianne and Sebastian led me to the charming Adélina Barn in Quebec, where their intimate fall wedding happened with many tears, laughs and cheers.
Marianne, a devoted teacher, and Sebastian, a cheerful small business manager, found me through a classic Google search. We immediately connected on our ability to chit chat the day away and our love of photography.
First Look
They had an amazing first look with each other and their closest friends close by to cheer them on! We did photos right away with everyone there and it created such a fun energy. I got all their wedding party members to blow bubbles for some fun photos! Everyone was excited and ready for the day to begin.
Group Photo: A hack
Getting a photo of all your guests can be very challenging. Not only do I need good lighting, the right backdrop, everyone to be looking, focused and listening but I also need the right levels to make sure I can see everybody’s face. That coupled with the fact that it can be time consuming to wait for people to gather around. If you have over 50/60 guests I recommend avoiding a group photo all together as many faces will be blocked and not visible as well as the amount of time it will take.
How to do it right when you want one?!
Make sure there are levels for people to sit and stand on and even a level for myself. That can help tremendously with ensuring I’ve captured every face! Let your guests know you’ll need them for a group photo right after the ceremony. The officiant can announce it before the ceremony and again after as a reminder. Having prepared guests will help with efficiency. For reference Marianne & Sebastian had approximately 38 guests in their photo, that I’ve added below, and I still missed a couple faces. You’ll be able to see when you get to it how ideal it is to have chairs/benches for added layers.
Wedding Day: A Journey of Emotions
Adélina Barn, surrounded by big old trees and loads of fresh air, provided the perfect backdrop for Marianne and Sebastian’s intimate wedding. Thyme & Again catered an unforgettable feast, with a bread salad that will live on in my memory as the best bread, salad and bread salad I’ve ever had. Adelina Barn lit a fire outside, candles glowed inside while the guests were chatting and laughing. It felt like a scene right out of a romcom. It’s one of the most intimate weddings I’ve been to. It felt intimate, not in guest count but in mood and conversation. The night was full of heartfelt toasts, and laughters that echoed the depth of their love.
A Special Decor Detail
One thing I will always hold dear from this wedding is how they wrote a personalized note for each guest inside their name tag. Guests had name tags full from top to bottom about how special it was to have them there. That’s such a beautiful touch to any event or day.
Timeless Moments: Beyond Boundaries
As the sunset began, I quickly stole Marianne and Sebastian away to a nearby field, where the warm hues of a fall sunset were looking mighty good. It created a perfect end to a perfect day and is something they’ll get to look back on for years to come.
Whether capturing the intimacy of an Ontario wedding or traveling distances as a wedding photographer, my goal is to freeze stories like Marianne and Sebastian’s. Allow them to press pause and look back at all these beautiful people, details, moments and more.
